Leslie Placed on Injured Reserve
LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Lisa Leslie was placed on injured reserve Tuesday by the Los Angeles Sparks because of a knee injury sustained in the WNBA All-Star game.
The league MVP bruised a bone in her right knee Saturday after colliding with Detroit’s Swin Cash.
Leslie will be out at least three games; against Phoenix on Tuesday, Houston on Friday and Connecticut on Sunday. The center is averaging 18.9 points and 10.1 rebounds. On Monday, Leslie was on crutches while attending practice and had a brace on her leg.
She has missed four games during her seven WNBA seasons. During Saturday’s game in New York, Leslie fell hard under the basket in the second half and stayed down for several minutes while trainers assisted her.
Leslie is fourth in the WNBA in scoring with an 18.9 point average. She is third in rebounding (10.1) and leads the league in blocks (3.0).
Leslie, who has won the All-Star MVP trophy three times, had a team-high 17 points in 16 minutes of the West’s 84-75 victory over the East.
