L-Cats upend Thunderbirds

December 31, 2018

LAKE MILLS — Sophomore guard Taylor Roughen scored a game-high 19 points and the Lake Mills girls basketball team had five players in double-figures scoring en route to beating Baraboo 71-52 Friday in a Lake Mills Classic game at Lakeside Lutheran.

Lake Mills’ Jade Pitta and Vivian Guerrero scored 13 points each. McClain Mahone and Julianna Wagner notched 12 points apiece for the L-Cats.

The game was tied at halftime before Lake Mills (8-4) pulled away thanks to efficient play on both ends.

“We were a little more efficient on offense,” Lake Mills head coach Brandon Siska said. “In the second half, we were able to turn them over. We got better looks and finished more.”

“Taylor Roughen had a big first half shooting it. McClain Mahone had her best game of the year today. Hannah Lamke did some stuff that doesn’t show up in the stat sheet that kept the momentum going for us.”

Baraboo (1-9) poised some challenges due to its size and athleticism on the floor.

“I think that team is a lot better than their record,” Siska said. “They are big, athletic and a well-coached team. I’m happy with how our kids played. We fought and played hard. We played with a lot more intensity on defense. We shared the ball well today. We got some shots to fall like they had been in previous games. Beating a big school again is key for our confidence as we get into conference play next week.”

For Baraboo, Lia Kieck scored 16 points and Alexis Johnson added 13.

Lake Mills travels to Columbus for a Capitol North game on Thursday, Jan. 3.
