KISSIMMEE, Fla. (AP) _ Atlanta Braves catcher Eddie Perez, coming back from shoulder surgery, passed his first throwing test of the spring Monday.

Perez made about 10 throws from home to second _ the kind he'll need to make against opposing baserunners.

``I didn't throw it as hard as I wanted,'' he said. ``But it was pain-free. It was good.''

Perez played only seven games last season before rotator cuff surgery on his throwing shoulder. He is only 10 months into his comeback, which was expected to take at least a year.

``We were working more on my quickness and footwork,'' he said. ``Everything was good, almost perfect. Now, I need to get my arm back.''

Perez has plenty of doubts.

``I still wonder how my arm is going to be after a year away,'' he said. ``Hopefully, I will get it back. I don't know how long it's going to take.''
