ACSO: victim pushed from car on Edgefield Highway had gunshot wounds
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office has launched a death investigation after a victim with a gunshot wound was reportedly pushed out of a moving vehicle on Edgefield Highway Saturday night.
The victim was identified by Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables as Jonathan Cochran, 36, of Aiken, on Sunday afternoon.
According to a press release from ACSO, witnesses told police the incident occurred on Edgefield Highway near Jack Jones Street around 10:50 p.m. on Saturday. Witnesses described the vehicle as a dark-colored, four-door car.
The vehicle allegedly did not stop after Cochran was pushed out onto the roadway.
ACSO investigators and the Aiken County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene. Cochran was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS.
Cause of death has not been confirmed, but Cochran was found to have an apparent gunshot wound on his upper torso. It is unknown whether he was deceased when he was thrown from the vehicle at this time.
The investigation is ongoing, and more details will be released as they become available.
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information on this case to contact police. A reward of up to $1,000 is being offered for tips that lead to an arrest.
