Cops: Stamford woman drinks bottle of Champagne, crashes into parked car

STAMFORD — A 36-year-old Stamford woman was arrested Sunday after a couple of off-duty police officers enjoying a late afternoon lunch observed her allegedly crashing into a parked car.

Katherine Benator was questioned by police officers after the collision, and allegedly said she had consumed an entire bottle of Champagne at brunch. According to police, Benator crashed her black Volkswagen on Franklin Street while leaving a parking garage on Summer Street.

Police discovered she was intoxicated after testing her blood alcohol content.

Benator had two previous charges of driving under the influence of alcohol on her record, police said.

Benator was charged with driving while intoxicated and failure to drive in proper lane. She was released on $100 bond.
