2 Final Four spots to be decided today...Harper seeks his first hit...Darvish starts for Cubs at Rangers
UNDATED (AP) — The first two spots in the Final Four will be decided tonight. In the West Region, Gonzaga and the best offense in Division I will face Texas Tech and the nation’s best defense. The South Region will have a similar vibe with high-scoring guard Carsen Edwards and Purdue playing Virginia and its stingy defense.
UNDATED (AP) — Eight more women’s teams try to reach the NCAA regional finals today, including top seeds Notre Dame and Baylor. The defending champion Irish will face Texas A&M in the Chicago Regional, and Missouri State plays Stanford. Baylor will face South Carolina in the Greensboro Regional, while Iowa takes on N.C. State.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Bryce Harper tries for his first hit of the season when the Phillies host Atlanta again this afternoon. Harper was 0 for 3 with two strikeouts on opening day, though his intentional walk set up Rhys Hoskins’ seventh-inning grand slam in a 10-4 victory. The Braves’ Bryse Wilson is set to oppose Philly’s Nick Pivetta.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Chicago Cubs righty Yu Darvish makes his season debut today after an injury-shortened year. He’ll face some former Rangers teammates when he starts at Texas. Darvish hasn’t pitched in the majors since last May 20, when elbow trouble sidelined him in his first season since signing a rich deal with the Cubs.
