4 San Diego County deputy shootings ruled justified

March 3, 2018

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Authorities say San Diego County sheriff’s deputies were legally justified in killing four people last year, including a man who was shot 16 times.

The district attorney’s office announced results of the investigations Friday.

The San Diego Union-Tribune says one shooting killed an unarmed Vista gang member in July.

Jonathon Coronel was wanted on a warrant and suspected of involvement in the death of a 13-year-old boy.

Authorities say he was shot 16 times after a deputy thought he was pulling a gun.

Coronel’s family is suing over the death.

The other shootings involved a 34-year-old homeless man who barged into a San Marcos home; a 34-year-old man who charged at a deputy while holding a knife and a 66-year-old Campo man who shot at deputies.
