CRANBERRY, Pa. (AP) _ A bird escaped from its cage inside a minivan and distracted the driver, causing a three-vehicle pileup in which a woman was killed and five people were injured, police said.

State police said H. Dean Kinch, 72, was driving about 65 miles north of Pittsburgh when the bird got loose Sunday afternoon.

Kinch swerved into oncoming traffic, colliding with a convertible. A motorcycle then crashed into the convertible.

A woman in the convertible, Charlotte Wheeler, 59, was killed.

Kinch and four others were injured.
