Skeletal remains found at home in Cleveland’s Union-Miles neighborhood

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Skeletal remains were found Friday night at a home on Cleveland’s east side, police said.

Cleveland police were notified by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office in Michigan about a body being buried in the 4100 block of East 147th Street, in the Union-Miles neighborhood, Cleveland police said Saturday in a brief news release.

Investigators discovered the body buried under mulch and debris about 8 p.m., police said.

Washtenaw County sheriff officials arrested Devontey Gaines Brown, 20, and charged him with felonious assault and domestic violence in the attack of his mother, Cleveland police said.

Brown is a suspect in the case of the found remains, Cleveland police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia said.

The circumstances surrounding Brown’s arrest in Michigan were unknown, Ciaccia said. Washtenaw County is located in the western part of Michigan and includes Ann Arbor.

Cleveland homicide detectives have opened an investigation on the remains, police said.

The remains were not identified.
