Expos-Marlins Rained Out
MIAMI (AP) _ Friday night’s game between Montreal and the Florida Marlins was postponed because of rain in the top of the first inning with the Expos ahead 1-0.
The game started 12 minutes late, was stopped after eight minutes of play and called after a wait of 66 minutes. It will be made up when the Expos visit the Marlins from Sept. 21-23.
The Expos scored a run, which will not count in the official statistics, against Dennis Springer.
Manny Martinez led off with a double and Orlando Merced hit an RBI single with one out. After Vladimir Guerrero struck out, the rain worsened. The washout was the second at Pro Player Stadium this season.
Springer will be bumped back in the Florida rotation, with Brian Meadows pitching Saturday and Livan Hernandez on Sunday.
Mike Thurman, who was supposed to pitch Friday for the Expos, will start Saturday. Jeremy Powell will be moved back a day to start Sunday.
