Family of woman killed in 2016 Danbury police pursuit sues city

December 4, 2018

DANBURY — The family of a woman killed during a police chase in Danbury two years ago is suing the city and the former police officer who led the pursuit.

The estate of 26-year-old Tiffany Fitzgerald filed a wrongful death lawsuit in federal court last week claiming that former officer Jamie Hodge should not have chased the Ford Explorer she was riding in with 33-year-old Ricardo Andre in early December 2016.

Fitzgerald was killed when the high-speed pursuit ended in a violent crash and the lawsuit contends Hodge acted recklessly, “in dereliction of duty and violation of orders, abandoning his assigned post and duties, for some apparent personal gain,” according to the lawsuit.

Hodge has since resigned his position with the Danbury Police Department and sued the city this summer, claiming racial discrimination played a role in his ouster.
