Food Bank feeds nearly 700 families over Thanksgiving

November 29, 2018

BULLHEAD CITY — The Colorado River Food Bank and Community Clothes Store fed 682 families over the Thanksgiving holiday and are actively working to restock their shelves for a busy December.

“The baskets were given out to community members in both Nevada and Arizona,” said Sand West, volunteer coordinator with the CRFB. “We gave the baskets out to the people who are in our database which range from families to elders to single people.”

CRFB distributed the Thanksgiving dinner baskets from Nov. 14 through the 21st.

“When we make the Thanksgiving baskets we get help from the Laughlin Police Department which makes the process go a bit quicker,” West said. “The baskets are made up of donations that we receive and a good chunk of it is stuff that we gather up all year.”

The CRFB has begun preparations for the Christmas baskets that will be distributed in December.

“I’m actually making my list today of the stuff that we are going to need to buy with the donations that we get,” said West. “Usually, during Christmas, we give out the same number of baskets as we do during Thanksgiving. We do already have volunteers scheduled to come and help us to put the baskets together. However, people can come down to the CRFB the Third Wednesday of every month to help us with our mobile pantry from 7 a.m. to noon.”

The Colorado River Food Bank and Community Clothes Store will distribute Christmas baskets Dec. 20 and 21 from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

“We try to serve as many people as we can in the surrounding communities to hopefully give them a better holiday,” West said.
