Ruben’s Backyard takes over MoMak’s space on San Antonio’s Northeast Side
A massive restaurant space on the Northeast Side near the front gates of McAllister Park has been given new life.
Ruben’s Backyard has taken over the former MoMak’s Backyard Malts & Burgers, which closed in 2018. The new restaurant opened about a month ago.
Ruben’s mimics some of the MoMak’s vibe, with a lineup of five burgers, lots of fried starter options and cold beer, but it has expanded the menu to include more sandwiches, Tex-Mex plates and a full bar.
The restaurant features sit-down service and extensive indoor and outdoor dining areas. The large children’s play area from the MoMak’s days has been removed; the space is being used for additional picnic table seating.
The property is adjacent to the Bushwood complex, which features a driving range, bar and barbecue restaurant.
Ruben’s Backyard, 13838 Jones Maltsberger Rd., 210-314-7889, Hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Facebook: rubensbackyard
