DENVER (AP) _ Police arrested a man on suspicion of murder after his wife’s body was found with a gunshot wound in a landfill. A search continued Thursday for the couple’s missing 6-year-old daughter.
Michael Blagg, 39, was arrested Wednesday night at his mother’s house in Warner Robins, Ga.
Jennifer Blagg, 34, and Abby disappeared Nov. 13 from the family’s home in Grand Junction. Michael Blagg told authorities he returned home from work to find a pool of blood in the master bedroom and his wife and daughter gone.
The woman’s remains were found Tuesday and Wednesday. Police said she had been shot to death.
Blagg was jailed on $1 million bail for investigation of murder. He had planned to return to Grand Junction on Thursday to make funeral arrangements, said his lawyer, Stephan Schweissing.
``Certainly it’s a difficult situation for him and this has been a very emotional time for Mr. Blagg. He’s doing his best to remain positive,″ Schweissing said.
Jennifer Blagg’s uncle, Wayne Loman of Pauls Valley, Okla., said he drew some comfort from the arrest. ``We found what we always suspected all along,″ Loman said. ``I’m still real concerned about the little girl.″
Authorities said it could take weeks to finish sorting through the 7,000 tons of trash in the search area.
Sheriff Riecke Claussen said trash found near the woman’s body came from the manufacturing company where Michael Blagg used to work.
Blagg, who was hospitalized in February after an apparent suicide attempt, was under suicide watch in a Georgia jail.
