USCG calls of search after unmanned fishing boat found
The United States Coast Guard stopped searching Tuesday afternoon for the owner or operator of an adrift 25-foot recreational vessel discovered in the surf about a mile north of the mouth of the Rio Grande.
The search began in the morning after a Border Patrol agent notified the Coast Guard of the unmanned and adrift red, center console vessel with one outboard motor and fishing gear on board.
The U.S. Coast Guard deployed a HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew and 33-foot Special Purpose Craft-Law Enforcement boat crew to the area.
The Secretaría de Marína assisted the U.S. government in the search.
The Coast Guard’s search remains suspended pending the development of new information.
Anyone who might be able to help identify the owner of the vehicle is asked to contact the Coast Guard Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi Command Center at (361) 939-0450.
