Louisiana school board fills vacancy
SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — The Caddo Parish School Board has filled a vacancy left when a long-time board member died earlier this month.
The Times reports the board Tuesday selected Durwood Hendricks Jr. on a 6-5 vote to replace Larry Ramsey, who died of pancreatic cancer. Hendricks will serve until November elections.
Hendricks edged out former Caddo Parish Commissioner David F. Cox.
Seven people applied to fill the vacancy.
Hendricks, a reserve airman with the 307th Bomb Wing, is a Shreveport native, a Fair Park High School graduate and a product of the Caddo school system. Both of his parents also served as educators in Caddo Parish.
He currently serves as the president of the Southern Hills Homeowners’ Association and the Shreveport-Caddo Metropolitan Planning Commission’s Zoning Board of Appeals.
