SAN FRANCISCO (AP) _ A man was missing after being thrown overboard during a late-night Halloween party cruise in San Francisco Bay, authorities said.

The unidentified victim was partying on a boat carrying about 275 people shortly before midnight when he was tossed into the bay Saturday, said San Francisco police Inspector Sergio Chin. The victim’s girlfriend and several other friends also were aboard, he said.

The U.S. Coast Guard was searching for the man Sunday with a helicopter and several boats, said Coast Guard Petty Officer Carl Hausner.

It was not clear if alcohol had a role in the incident. Police were interviewing witnesses, Chin said.

The boat is operated by San Francisco-based private cruise company Red and White Fleet.
