OUTDOOR RETAIL SHOW-POLITICS

DENVER _ Two years after jumping into a fight with the Trump administration over public lands, the U.S. outdoor industry is turning up the political pressure — though its impact is difficult to measure. Thousands of manufacturers and retailers gathered in Denver starting Wednesday for the annual Outdoor Retailer and Snow Show, and some of the biggest names vowed to keep pushing to preserve public lands. CHACO CANYON-DRILLING

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. _ U.S. land managers will move forward in March with the sale of oil and gas leases that include land near Chaco Culture National Historical Park and other sites sacred to Native American tribes. The sale comes as Democratic members of Congress, tribal leaders and environmentalists have criticized the federal Bureau of Land Management for pushing ahead with drilling permit reviews and preparations for energy leases despite the recent government shutdown. COLORADO RIVER-DROUGHT PLAN

PHOENIX _ Arizona lawmakers face a deadline Thursday to let the state join a drought plan for the Colorado River or risk blowing up a compromise years in the making for the seven states that draw water from the constrained river. Arizona is the only state that requires legislative approval to join the agreement, which will require the states to take less water from the river in hopes of keeping major reservoirs from reaching catastrophically low levels. XGR--COLORADO DRUG PRICES _ A bipartisan bill to reduce prescription drug costs by creating a state wholesale import program gets is set to get its first legislative hearing Thursday.

IN BRIEF:

FATAL CAMPER FIRE _ Authorities say a man and a child are dead after a camper fire in southern Colorado. Firefighters were called to the fire in a mobile home park on the outskirts of Canon City early Wednesday and found a camper and a sport utility vehicle engulfed in flames. It took them about 45 minutes to put the fire out.
