Ennis-Hill back on the track after nearly 2 years off
MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis-Hill returned to the track for the first time in nearly two years when she finished third in the 100-meter hurdles in a city-center meeting in Manchester on Saturday.
One of Britain’s best known female athletes, she last raced competitively in July 2013 — a year after winning gold at the London Olympics — and has since given birth to her first child, Reggie.
Ennis-Hill has a little over a year to get back in top shape before the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, and said it was “good to be back” after clocking 13.14 seconds into a headwind on a purpose-built track in the Great CityGames. Compatriot Tiffany Porter won in 12.86.
Ennis-Hill said, “I feel like it’s a starting point. I feel like I can build on that.”
