ECHL linesman injured by skate

December 17, 2018

Because I grew up in the era of Clint Malarchuk (google it, if you dare), I always get nervous when I hear “skate blade injury,” and we had one of those in the ECHL today -- to an official. Charlie O’Connor, a linesman, was working a game in Orlando between the Solar Bears and the Atlanta Gladiators and he got clipped along the boards.

The video is above.

All I know right now is that it was his hand that was cut and he’s in a hospital in Orlando. So, well wishes to him on a speedy recovery.

We often forget, those guys are in the line of fire on the ice very often.

O’Connor is known as one of the ECHL’s best linesmen; he’s won the Ryan Birmingham Memorial Award for contributions and dedication to the league officiating staff, determined by voting of on-ice officials.
