Carlynton accepts superintendent’s resignation
Carlynton school board members called a special meeting Aug. 7 to accept the resignation of Superintendent Gary Peiffer, who was hired for the same position in the Greensburg Salem School District.
Board President Jim Schriver said the board has been in contact with a few organizations about how to proceed with the search. Peiffer’s resignation was dated July 25. He was hired as Carlynton’s superintendent in 2012.
Schriver said board vice president Joe Appel has communicated with outside firms and organizations that conduct superintendent searches.
The board has not made a final decision on who or how the search will be conducted, but Schriver said directors have options, such as hiring someone to fill in on a temporary basis or have an outside organization do a full search. Peiffer also can assist Carlynton for a few months if needed.
Schriver said a clause in Peiffer’s Carlynton contract guarantees coverage of superintendent duties for 90 days after the resignation.
Schriver said several directors were on the board during the last superintendent search.
Board member David Roussos said the district is in a better place since Peiffer’s arrival. Fellow directors echoed that sentiment.
“It was a very hard decision,” Peiffer said on a conference call during the meeting. “There’s a lot of good people there and it’s a great district. I’m sure you will be able to get someone who will be able to build upon the achievements.”
