Runner Dies During Broad Street Run
PHILADELPHIA (AP) _ One of the 6,700 runners in the 10-mile Broad Street Run collapsed and died Sunday, organizers said.
Richard Lagocki, 45 of Philadelphia, collapsed between the fourth and fifth miles near the intersection of Broad and Brown streets.
Medical personnel tried to revive him, but he was pronounced dead at Allegheny University Hospital. The cause of death has not been determined, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Organizers said it was the first fatality in race history.
