Restoration Project is Hot Topic for Board
TYNGSBORO -- Town Administrator Matthew Hanson has invited the Board of Selectmen to a meeting with Community Preservation Committee Wednesday night to discuss ways to complete interior restoration of the First Parish Meeting House this year.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at Town Hall.
Hanson told selectmen Monday night that he scheduled the joint meeting to consider ways to fund the project after the low bid of $2.26 million came in $500,000 over estimates. Constructions costs have increased since the plans went out to bid.
He met on Monday morning with members of the First Parish Meeting House Subcommittee who are requesting additional funding for the restoration.
The committee has made some minor design changes that will save $100,000. The changes are insufficient to warrant rebidding the project, Hanson said. Moreover, rebidding the project would likely produce higher bids. Hanson anticipates applying for grants from the Massachusetts Historical Commission and the DOER Green Community Grant Program. Each application would be for $100,000.
Hanson wants to move quickly to keep to a schedule that allows project completion this year.
