Town holds off on selling land to solar project after letter

January 31, 2018

DOVER, Vt. (AP) — A Vermont town is holding off on selling a closed and capped landfill to a solar project developer after the zoning administrator expressed concerns about the town not seeking competing bids.

Dover Zoning Administrator Wayne Estey wrote to the Select Board on Jan. 16 that it was “poor public policy” to sell off the landfill without seeking competing bids. The Brattleboro Reformer reports the board has tabled discussion of the agreement until Feb. 6, while Green Lantern Group Director of Development Ralph Meima plans to respond to the letter.

Green Lantern is currently working to establish three “community solar” arrays in three Vermont towns. The group says residents of the towns would get priority on purchasing credits for their power bills at a discounted rate.
