Vote No On Kavanaugh

September 24, 2018

Editor: I urge adamantly that Sens. Pat Toomey and Bob Casey vote no on the nomination for United States Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh. Kavanaugh has a history of violating the rights of disabled American citizens. Not only does Kavanaugh threaten cuts to Medicaid funding that allows people with disabilities to receive Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS), but in April 2007, Kavanaugh ruled to approve involuntary abortions and other invasive procedures to three women with intellectual disabilities. As a disabled American woman, whose primary disability is a developmental disability, Kavanaugh would have a profound impact on my ability to navigate my community as autonomously as I can. His history of maltreating the disability community in America is despicable, and he has no right to represent my people in the court system. Toomey and Casey should vote no on Kavanaugh. We need to have basic respect for civil and human rights of Americans with disabilities, and Kavanaugh is not an individual who will uphold those rights. Cassandra Cooper WAPWALLOPEN
