Sharing name with horse shot to death, Moonpie sends treats

December 5, 2018

GASTONIA, N.C. (AP) — The makers of Moonpie have sent condolences to a North Carolina man who lost his horse of the same name in a shooting.

Travis Walden tells WBTV-TV that he received an unexpected delivery of a box full of Moonpies, calling the move “classy.” Two weeks ago, Walden’s 4-year-old horse named Moonpie was shot to death, prompting community outcry and a Facebook group seeking justice.

No one has been arrested in the Gaston County case.

Walden says the company’s vice president left a note offering friendship and condolences along with the box of chocolate, graham cracker and marshmallow treats.

Walden says he appreciates the support from the “first-class company” and said the gesture touched his heart.
