Republican Bill Hixon locks in re-election on Tuesday night

November 9, 2018

State Rep. Bill Hixon, a North Augusta Republican, has been re-elected.

Hixon will continue to represent S.C. House District 83, which covers parts of Aiken — think North Augusta — and Edgefield counties.

Hixon earned 78.2 percent of the Aiken County vote on Tuesday. Libertarian David Weikle, Hixon’s competition, earned nearly 21 percent.

All Aiken County precincts, including absentee votes, were tallied and accounted for by 10:15 p.m. Hixon, however, held a clear lead from the start.

Hixon has been a state representative since 2011.

The state representative had no primary challenger.

On Tuesday night, Hixon said he was “very happy” with the turnout and results in both counties.

But, he added, he’d like to meet those that “voted the other way” – not in his favor. Asked why, Hixon said he’d like to hash out their differences.
