Point Pleasant beats Belpre, improves to 15-2
POINT PLEASANT — Alberto Castillo scored 42 seconds into the game to spark Point Pleasant (15-2-0) in a 3-1 victory over Belpre Thursday night in boys high school soccer.
Adam Veroski scored in the 19th minute to give the Big Blacks, winner of five in a row, a 2-0 lead.
Asaphe Santana scored to pull the Eagles within 2-1, but Veroski scored again at 69:27 to set the score.
SOUTH POINT 6, PORTSMOUTH 0: Jacob McClure scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Drew Smith as the Pointers (8-5-3) blanked the Trojans. Smith scored off an assist from Marquise Yancey to make it 2-0, then Yancey scored unassisted to make it 3-0. Kyle Badgett scored to make it 4-0 and Luke Tyree netted the final two goals to set the score.
GALLIA ACADEMY 0, POINT PLEASANT 0: Blue Angels goalkeeper Alexi Nickles made six saves and Big Blacks keeper Monica Cook stopped two shots as the cross-Ohio River rivals tied. Gallia Academy is 12-3-1. Point Pleasant is 8-6-4.
WINFIELD1, RIPLEY 1: Savannah scored for the Generals (16-1-2), and McKenzie Gillispie for Vikings (15-2-3). Winfield goalkeeper Emily Hudson made three saves.
Ripley’s Taylor Kennedy saved six shots.
