Petting zoo and aquarium on Cape Cod closes
YARMOUTH, Mass. (AP) — The ZooQuarium, a Cape Cod attraction for nearly a half century, has closed.
The Cape Cod Times reports (http://bit.ly/1bdktmY ) that the family-owned petting zoo and aquarium on Route 28 in Yarmouth closed its doors on Dec. 1 and the property is now for sale.
Longtime operator Dennis Markham said closing the ZooQuarium was a difficult decision.
Markham says most animals have been relocated to farms or other animal centers in the northeast, including two ponies named Calvin and Pumpkin who were picked up by the Newbury-based New England Equine Rescue.
The only remaining animals are a llama that is expected to go to a farm in Plympton this weekend, and a pig named Pickles, who will likely go home with its trainer.
