Blackhawk Middle School student hurt in Gettysburg fall
A Blackhawk Middle School student was injured after falling off a monument at Gettysburg National Memorial Park, Fort Wayne Community Schools said Friday.
The student was on an annual eighth-grade trip with about 45 classmates and three Blackhawk Middle School teachers. Gettysburg was the first stop on the Memorial Day weekend trip. The student was airlifted to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for treatment, FWCS said.
“Fort Wayne Community Schools was unable to provide any information on the student’s condition, but FWCS officials have been in communication with the student’s family. How the fall occurred is unclear, but we appreciate the quick response by the National Park Service, first responders and medical personnel. The student and the student’s family are in our prayers,” Krista Stockman, FWCS spokeswoman, said.
