Mustangs cruise past Texas City, 34-14, to remain unbeaten
Luke Revere rushed 25 times for 189 yards and a touchdown as Friendswood rolled up almost 400 yards of offense in a 34-14 win over Texas City Friday in a District 10-5A opener at Henry Winston Stadium.
Texas City (1-3) took an early 7-0 lead on a 1-yard run by Phillip McDaniel, but Friendswood (4-0, 1-0) would score the next 28 points to take control of the game.
Austin Alvarez caught touchdown passes of 24 and 26 yards from Mustang quarterback Luke Grden in the second quarter while Zach Zamora ran one yard for another score as Friendswood built a 21-7 halftime lead.
Revere then bolted 32 yards for a touchdown at the 8:18 mark of the third quarter as the advantage widened to 28-7.
Texas City responded with Phillip McDaniel’s 60-yard scoring run, but Friendswood’s Colton Halata ran seven yards for the final Friendswood touchdown with 4:48 left.
Grden completed 13 of 25 passes for 168 yards and two touchdowns. Alvarez had seven receptions for 107 yards and the two scores.
Jo’Vel McDaniel and Phillip McDaniel rushed for 107 and 106 yards, respectively, for Texas City.
Friendswood tries to remain unbeaten when it plays at Galveston Ball next Friday.
