The following preliminary hearings are among those scheduled Tuesday before District Judge Ken Johnson, of Somerset:
Driving under the influence
Jarris Denard Mayfield, 37, Somerset, was charged with driving under the influence and summary offenses of turning movements and required signals, and careless driving. State police said Mayfield drove with a blood alcohol level of 0.09 percent on the 600 block of South Center Avenue in Somerset Township on June 17. A hearing is scheduled at 10 a.m.
Jay Wesley Watkins, 74, Friedens, was charged with retail theft, a second-degree misdemeanor.
State police said Watkins, a regular customer at Mostoller’s convenience store, Stoystown Road, Somerset Township, placed a small container of milk in his back pocket and left the store without paying for the milk on June 8. Then he placed it in a salt bucket outside the store and left the area, according to a probable-cause affidavit. A hearing is scheduled at 2:30 p.m.
