Kieran Read to miss All Blacks-England test
AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) — All Blacks backrower Kieran Read has been ruled out of Saturday’s first rugby test against England after showing further symptoms of concussion.
Read returned to Super Rugby last weekend after being sidelined for more than five weeks as a result of a concussion suffered in a match on April 19.
He was thought to have recovered when he was included in the All Blacks squad for the first of three tests against England. But coach Steve Hansen said Read woke Monday “not feeling well” and would not play. Hansen said the injury was not considered serious.
Steven Luatua has been called into the squad while flanker Matt Todd replaces Sam Cane, who has a fracture in his knee. Winger Julian Savea will have scans on an injured knee later Tuesday.
