WVC SOCCER ROUNDUP: Glynn, Garino Lead Crestwood In Shutout Of Coughlin

At Crestwood, Payton Glynn scored twice, and Max Gariano had a goal and two assists in the Comets’ sixth shutout of the season, 5-0 over Coughlin in Wyoming Valley Conference boys soccer Wednesday night.

Sean Murphy and Nick Ruggeri also scored for Crestwood (9-0, 8-0 Division 1). Justin Sterling and Hubert Herrera both tallied an assist.

At Dallas, Zach Holthaus set the tone with two quick goals, and the Mountaineers kept up the pace.

Joey Nardone, Beaudyn Lewis, T.J. Herron and Bryan Osipower also scored goals for Dallas (8-1 Division 1).

Kyle Mlodzienski tallied 12 saves for Pittston Area (0-9-1, 0-8-1 Division 1).

At Berwick, Nate Naugle and Scott Nilson found the net as the Spartans (6-3, 5-2 Division 1) won for the sixth time in seven matches.

Though Valley West out-shot Berwick (1-6-2, 1-5-2 Divsion 1), 11-0, Luis Garcia kept the Bulldogs competitive with nine saves.

Girls Soccer

At Dallas, Megan MacNeely’s goal in the second half on an assist from Ali Francis was the only score in a defensive battle that the Mountaineers won, 1-0, against Pittston Area in WVC girls soccer Wednesday.

Pittston Area goalkeeper Caroline Wesp made 20 saves and nearly kept Dallas’ high-scoring offense off the board entirely. Dallas’ Sarah Krokos made 10 saves in a shutout.

At Valley West, Berwick’s Abbie Seely answered an early goal for a 1-all tie before halftime, and Sarina DeFinnis scored the winner seven minutes into the second half.

Kennadi Josefowicz initially gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead with her goal at the 9:49 mark of the match.
