VIRGINIA WATER, England (AP) _ John Daly withdrew from the Scottish Open on Wednesday, saying he wanted to spend more time with his children.
Daly, who tied for third in the tournament last year, was to have been one of the major attractions in the $3 million event at Loch Lomond Golf Club on July 11-14.
The 36-year-old Daly told the European Tour on Wednesday he was withdrawing to spend time with his two daughters from a previous marriage. He will return for the British Open at Muirfield (July 18-21).
Daly, who won the 1995 British Open at St. Andrews, won the BMW International in Munich last year _ his first win in six years _ then became a member of the European Tour. He is also a member of the PGA Tour.
Daly finished ninth at the Benson and Hedges International at The Belfry in May and improved to 46th in the world rankings.
