No. 22 BYU Beats Weber St. 51-41

PROVO, Utah (AP) _ Erin Thorn scored eight of her 14 points as No. 22 BYU erased Weber State’s final lead of the game, and Cougars pulled away to win 51-41 Saturday.

Thorn made two 3-pointers and a driving layup to put BYU (3-0) in front 40-35 with 5:49 remaining. Jennifer Leitner added 15 points.

Weber State (1-2) was led by Crystal Howe with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Julie Gjertsen added 12 points.

BYU struggled offensively in the first half, shooting 29 percent. But Weber State was worse, making just three of 25 shots.

Howe made a turnaround jumper and Gjertsen scored as the Wildcats made four of five shots for 25-21 lead early in the second half.

BYU went in front again, but Gjertsen made a free throw with 7:14 to play to give the Wildcats a 32-32 tie.

Thorn made two 3-pointers to put BYU ahead 38-35.

She added a layup off a drive from the left corner for a 40-35 lead. After Leitner added two layups and Julie Sullivan made a third to cap a 14-2 run, the Cougars led 46-35 with two minutes to play.
