The Plymouth Historical Society presented the program ‘The Avondale Mine Disaster of 1869 — A 150th Anniversary Commemoration’ on Friday at the Plymouth Municipal Building on Shawnee Avenue.

The event was moderated by Mary Beth Kondrad of the Plymouth Historical Society and featured various speakers such as mining author and historian Robert Wolensky from King’s College, and Steve Kondrad and Georgetta Potoski, both from the historical society.

The Avondale Mine Disaster occurred Sept. 6, 1869, and resulted in the deaths of 110 miners.
