Darren R. Wells returns to the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. as CFO

AKRON, Ohio – The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CO. has named Darren R. Well as its chief financial officer

Wells, 52, will take over the position held by Laura Thompson, who has been with Goodyear for 35 years and will retire in early 2019.

Wells, who currently serves at the University of South Florida’s Muma College of Business as executive in residence and MBA coach, returns to Goodyear, where he has held several financial leadership positions.

He joined Goodyear in 2002 as vice president and treasurer, serving as executive vice president and CFO from 2008-2013. He was also president of Goodyear’s Europe, Middle East and Africa business for two years before leaving the company in early 2016.

Wells’ contributions include designing Goodyear’s capital allocation plan, as well as freezing and funding its U.S. pension plans. He also developed a post-retirement health-care agreement with the United Steelworkers union.

“We are pleased to welcome Darren back to Goodyear,” said Goodyear President and CEO Richard J. Kramer in a news release. “For more than a decade, he was a key leader on our strategic journey and a valued business partner to me and our senior leadership team. With his deep knowledge of Goodyear, the tire industry and our key markets, Darren will be able to contribute immediately to advancing our priorities along with developing our finance leadership, talent and teams.”
