NDA Preps for ‘Anne of Green Gables’

November 25, 2018

TYNGSBORO -- Join the students and staff of the Upper School at the Academy of Notre Dame as they bring to life the imaginative and heart-warming story of “Anne of Green Gables.”

Since September, students have dedicated countless hours and energy to present three performances of the play based on the novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery. All of the students involved have done their part for the shows, whether it be blocking, painting or rehearsing lines.

Amy Marrello, director of the Drama Guild, is pleased with how well the girls have taken on character roles.

“The story of ‘Anne of Green Gables’ is resonating right now with audiences young and old thanks to the popular Netflix series, ‘Anne with an E,’ and our students are doing a brilliant job bringing the story to life on the NDA stage,” Marrello said.

The classic tale takes place in the fictional town of Avonlea, Nova Scotia. Anne Shirley is an orphan who is mistakenly sent to live with siblings, Marilla and Matthew, to help run their family farm at Green Gables. The siblings begin to fall in love with Anne’s caring, imaginative and sometimes overdramatic personality as she thrives in and brightens up the close-knit village.

Junior Katherine Aste of Lowell plays Anne. Other cast members include: seniors Anoutsa Latsapanya of Lowell and Rebecca Morgheim of Dracut; juniors Jenna Ebeed of Windham, N.H., Olivia Gavlak of Hudson, N.H., and Lucera Story of Chelmsford; sophomores Madison Breault of Dracut and Luying Zhou of Lowell; and eighth-graders Yesenia Collins of Tyngsboro and Charlotte Lokere of Westford.

English Literature Instructor Helen Stamas is also participating.

Performance dates are Friday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 1. at 2 and 7 p.m.. Raffles and concessions will be available at each show. There will also be a meet-and-greet with the cast after the matinee show.
