Wildcats suffer first district loss against Lobos

Tomball Memorial (4-1, 2-1) lost to Langham Creek (2-4, 2-2) 28-21, last Friday, at Tomball ISD Stadium.Chris Herron scored on an 8-yard run, his third touchdown, with 1:21 left in the fourth quarter to give the Lobos the win.Herron’s 7-yard run with 8:22 left in the first quarter made it 7-0.The Wildcats answered back to tie it with Christian Lovick’s 3-yard run.Gerald Arline scored on a 5-yard run to give Langham Creek a 14-7 edge after the first quarter.Lovick then scored on another 3-yard run to make it 14-14 at halftime.Herron scored on a 10-yard pass from Arline to make it 21-14 with 5:56 left in the third quarter.Logan Kyle scored on a 21-yard pass from Chandler Galban to tie it at 21.Tomball Memorial finished with 371 total yards to Langham Creek’s 270.Arline finished with 129 passing yards and one touchdown, Corien Azema had 137 rushing yards on nine carries and Herron had six catches for 84 yards and three total touchdowns.Galban finished with 95 passing yards and one touchdown, Lovick had 91 rush yards and two touchdowns and Jordan Grice had three catches for 49 yards.The Wildcats take on Bridgeland next Friday, 7 p.m., at Cy-Far FCU Stadium.In volleyball, Tomball Memorial beat Langham Creek in district play, Oct. 5.TomballTomball (3-2, 1-1) beat Caney Creek 42-3 last Friday, at Conroe to pick up its first district win.Tomball was coming off a 58-28 loss to Magnolia West to open District 8-5A action.The Cougars scored only seven points in the second half after jumping out to a huge lead in the second quarter.Tomball scored 14 points in the first quarter and 21 in the second to make it 35-3 at half time.Konner Cooper scored on a pass from Hunter Dunn for the game’s first score. Dunn finished with three touchdown passes, all to different receivers, as well as a rushing touchdown.Daveon Vean and Kasen Handa also scored.The Cougar defense shutout Caney Creek in the second half.Tomball takes on Waller next Friday, 7:30 p.m., at Tomball ISD Stadium.In volleyball, the Cougars beat Caney Creek in district play, Oct. 2.Concordia LutheranConcordia Lutheran (3-3) lost to Kinkaid 35-28, last Friday, at Concordia Lutheran.The Crusaders missed two opportunities to score in the second quarter, but were held to fourth downs. They settled for fields goal, only to miss both of them.The defense showed up in the second half and held Kinkaid to seven points which came at the start of the third quarter.Ben Singer scored on a 3-yard run in the first quarter to tie the game at 7.Kinkaid would go on to score 21 points in the second quarter to make it 28 -7 at halftime.Singer scored on a 1-yard run and Andrew Elder scored on a 7-yard pass from Brett Simcox to make it 35-21 heading into the final quarter.Singer’s 7-yard run in the fourth quarter made it 35-28.Kinkaid finished with 334 rushing yards and 159 passing yards and Concordia had 288 passing yards and 141 rush yards.Ben Singer had 107 rushing yards on 20 carries, 34 receiving yards on four catches and three rushing touchdowns. Colin Howard had 13 receptions for 176 yards and Simcox finished with 288 passing yards and one touchdown.Concordia Lutheran takes on St. Thomas Catholic next Friday, 7 p.m., at Concordia Lutheran.In volleyball, the Crusaders beat Incarnate Word Academy in district play, Oct. 2, and beat Oak Ridge the following Friday.Rosehill ChristianRosehill Christian (4-0) takes on Calvary Christian next Saturday, 4 p.m., at Calvary Christian after a bye-week.alvaro.montano@chron.com
