Olaf Kolzig made 36 saves as the Washington Capitals defeated the Ottawa Senators 2-0 Wednesday night, despite managing only 11 shots on goal, to take a 3-1 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinal series. The Capitals can advance to the conference finals for just the second time in their history with a win at home Friday night.

SUDDEN STAR

Benoit Hogue scored two goals, including his second consecutive game-winner, to lift the Dallas Stars to a 3-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers and a 3-1 lead in the Western Conference semifinal series Wednesday night. Hogue also scored in the Stars’ 1-0 overtime win over the Oilers on Monday night.
