Man sentenced for killing clerk in convenience store robbery
MOUNT HOLLY, N.J. (AP) — A man who fatally shot a clerk during a New Jersey convenience store robbery is now headed to state prison.
Burlington County prosecutors say Eramus Canty received a 24-year sentence on Thursday. The 34-year-old Burlington Township man had pleaded guilty in February to aggravated manslaughter just as his felony murder trial was about to start.
Canty shot 42-year-old Matthew Mwinsori during a November 2015 robbery of the Quick N Go store in Willingboro. Prosecutors say that at some point, Mwinsori chased Canty into the store’s parking lot, where Canty shot him after a struggle.
Mwinsori was taken to a hospital but died there a short time later. Canty was captured almost a month later in Asbury Park.
