Trump backs ‘outstanding’ Webber in House race vs. Sherrill
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — President Donald Trump has weighed in on one of the most watched House races in this year’s election to endorse Republican Assemblyman Jay Webber over Democrat Mikie Sherrill.
Trump tweeted his endorsement in New Jersey’s 11th District on Thursday. He says Webber is “outstanding in every way,” and is strong on the border, loves the military and fighting crime.
Webber is an attorney and represented the 26th legislative district for a decade. Sherrill is a former prosecutor and Navy pilot.
The seat is open this year since Republican Rodney Frelinghuysen is retiring.
Polls show the race is close, but Democrats seem energized. Sherrill has more campaign cash, and Democrats registered more voters than the GOP this year.
The northern New Jersey district includes parts Essex, Morris, Passaic and Sussex counties.
