December 31, 1997

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) _ Vincent Askew, who hadn’t played in two games since being activated from the injured list, was suspended for one game Tuesday by the Portland Trail Blazers for missing practice.

The nine-year NBA veteran was to sit out Tuesday night’s game against Philadelphia after missing practice Monday.

Askew has appeared in only six games this season, averaging 2.3 points and 8.5 minutes. He has had two stints on the injured list due to a sprained left ankle.

Askew was signed as a free agent prior to the start of the season. He has played for eight teams in his nine seasons and split time last season with New Jersey, Indiana and Denver.
