SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — After routing Alabama in the national championship game, Clemson has picked up all 61 first-place votes in The Associated Press college football poll. The Crimson Tide, which was trying to become just the third team to go wire-to-wire as the number-one team in the country, finished second. Clemson beat Alabama 44-16 in the College Football Playoff national championship last night.

CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) — Clemson will celebrate its latest national title with a parade and ceremony on Saturday. The school said the parade will start at 9 a.m. Eastern before ending at the Tigers stadium, where coach Dabo Swinney and several players are expected to speak. After Clemson won the championship two years ago, fans filled much of the upper deck of the stadium, which seats 81,500.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — After seeing an eight-game winning streak snapped by the Chicago Blackhawks Sunday night, the Pittsburgh Penguins look to get back on the winning track tonight when they host the Florida Panthers. And the Tampa Bay Lightning try to resume the team’s winning ways tonight at home against Columbus. Tampa Bay had a seven-game win streak broken Saturday night in San Jose -- the Lightning’s first regulation loss in more than five weeks.

MIAMI (AP) — There’s a matchup of NBA division leaders tonight in Miami, where the Heat hosts the Denver Nuggets. Miami’s 19-and-19 mark is good for a half-game lead over Charlotte in the Southeast Division, while the Nuggets, at 26-and-12, lead the Northwest Division by a game and a-half over Oklahoma City.

VIRGINIA WATER, England (AP) — Padraig Harrington has been chosen as captain of Europe’s team for the 2020 Ryder Cup. The 47-year-old Irishman has served as vice-captain for the past three Ryder Cups, most recently under Thomas Bjorn last year when Europe regained the trophy outside Paris.
