September 17, 2018

LEWISTON — Dover-Eyota quarterback Brady Williams threw for 323 yards and three touchdowns Friday as the Eagles held off Lewiston-Altura 27-24 in an exciting Southeast District, White Sub-District contest.

This was a back-and-forth affair.

Lewiston-Altura opened the scoring when Noah Herber dashed 11 yards for a TD. D-E responded immediately when Williams hit Brady Blynn for a 69-yard touchdown to tie the game at 7-7.

The Cardinals bounced right back, with quarterback Marcus Weaver connecting with Griffan Merchlewitz for a 10-yard score.

Once again, Williams wasted no time in evening things up, hitting Jack Studer for a 78-yard touchdown.

Finally, with the score 20-16 in the third quarter, the Williams-to-Studer connection clicked again, this time for a 67-yard TD that put D-E ahead 27-16. Studer finished with six catches for 192 yards.

The Cardinals would score on a 7-yard connection from Weaver to Hunter Gerdes with 4 minutes to play, but L-A couldn’t finish the rally. Weaver threw for 108 yards and two TDs.

Dover-Eyota piled up 433 yards of offense, while Lewiston-Altura had 386 yards.

Danner Brummer led the Cardinals rushing attack with 78 yards on nine carries.

Dover-Eyota (2-1) hosts Cannon Falls next week, while Lewiston-Altura (2-1) is at Caledonia.
