Child abuse arrest linked to shooting case
Another arrest has been made related to a shooting Dec. 9 in northwest North Platte.
Natasha Brown was arrested Monday on a warrant charging her with two counts of felony child abuse.
When Lincoln County sheriff’s deputies responded to the shooting just outside city limits, they removed two children from the home, said Chief Deputy Roland Kramer. He said drugs were involved in the incident.
The children were interviewed at Bridge of Hope Child Advocacy Center, and hair follicle samples were sent for drug testing. The tests were positive, and the warrant was issued for the mother.
The father, Isaac Ryan Brown, already was jailed in the Lincoln County Detention Center in connection with the shooting. Kramer said that about the time the warrant was issued, Natasha Brown was visiting her husband, making it easy to arrest her. Later in the day, she posted 10 percent of $50,000 bail and was released.
On Tuesday, a spokesperson at Lincoln County Court said a court date had been set for Natasha Brown but would have to be changed because it falls on a holiday.
Kramer said the children are now wards of the state and are in safe custody.
Isaac Brown has been charged with first-degree assault and tampering with evidence in the shooting case. The man who was shot, Anthony Bennett, has been charged with use of a firearm to commit a felony, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, possession of a stolen firearm and terroristic threats.
