POLICE OFFICERS SHOT

CAMDEN — A gunman opened fire on two New Jersey police officers while they were sitting in their vehicle at a red light Tuesday night, wounding them in what authorities are calling an ambush attack. At least one suspect opened fire on the plainclothes detectives in Camden, which is located just across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, said Camden County Police Chief J. Scott Thomson.

MISS AMERICA-CARLSON

ATLANTIC CITY — Gretchen Carlson, the former Fox News host now in charge of the Miss America Organization, says the organization needs to heal a rift that has seen 20 state groups call for her and other top leaders to resign. In an interview with The Associated Press that Carlson said would be her last on the subject, she said Miss America officials at all levels need to be “on the same page” and she hoped that would happen before the next Miss America is crowned in Atlantic City on Sept. 9. — DOG LEFT TO DROWN — Authorities have arrested a New Jersey man who is accused of leaving a young pit bull mix to drown in a cage at water’s edge in a rising tide.

— MAN DROWNS — Authorities say a man has drowned and a woman is missing after they got caught in rough waters while swimming with others in a northern New Jersey lake.

— LUXURY CAR THEFT RING — Authorities have charged six people with involvement in a car theft ring that targeted luxury vehicles in several New Jersey towns.

— TROOPER SAVES SWIMMER — New Jersey State Police say a trooper who was vacationing off North Carolina’s Outer Banks saved a woman who got caught in a riptide.
