PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Dozens gathered in a Portland park for a march and rally focusing on the safety of children following the deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida.

The organization "March Forth Maine" planned the rally Wednesday afternoon in Lobsterman Park. WGME-TV reports after the park rally, demonstrators made their way to Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins' office in Portland.

The demonstrators say they are demanding action on gun control, urging Congress to pass a deal on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and to protect special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation.

The organizers say the rally has been planned for some time, but it has gained renewed focus in the wake of the Parkland shooting.
