ST. LOUIS (AP) _ The St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday re-signed backup catcher Danny Sheaffer to a $200,000, one-year contract, the same salary he had in 1995.

Sheaffer, 34, hit .231 with five home runs and 30 RBIs last season. He played in 76 games, several as a starter after Tom Pagnozzi was injured.

His salary will increase to $335,000 if he is on the team's active roster any time in 1996.
